Major Cargo Theft Ring Dismantled in L.A. County |
Deputies seize $7M in stolen goods plus $1M cash during sting |
The Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department says a two-month investigation into organized cargo theft culminated this week with coordinated raids across the South Bay. Detectives recovered roughly $7 million in stolen consumer goods along with $1 million in cash, all tied to a fencing network that hit truck yards and warehouses along the 405 corridor.
LASD is urging Torrance-based shippers and retailers to re-check loading-dock security: verify driver credentials, keep GPS trackers powered, and never leave trailers staged overnight without hardened locks and lighting. Suspicious activity around holding lots or storefronts can be reported to the Cargo Theft Hotline at (213) 229-1700.
Expect additional court filings over the next few weeks as investigators trace where the stolen merchandise was sold. Businesses that suspect theyve purchased diverted product should contact LASD before reselling it. |
