Madrona Marsh Kayak Demo + Native Plant Sale

Weekend eco activities pair paddles, docent walks, and drought-friendly garden kits.

Madrona Marsh Nature Center is staging a one-day eco festival this Saturday, 8 a.m.–1 p.m., that pairs sunrise kayak demos on the retention basin with guided bird walks and a native plant sale curated for small balconies. Torrance Paddlesports is bringing 12 demo kayaks plus instructors who coach first-timers on safe entries and quick self-rescues.

Docents are running hourly habitat hikes, a pollinator-friendly gardening clinic, and a compost swap—bring a bucket, leave with sifted compost. The marsh’s nursery team will have 30+ drought-tolerant bundles (milkweed, sage, yarrow) starting at $12, and the Torrance Women’s Club is hosting a kids’ leaf-print station near the amphitheater.

Parking is limited to the Post Office lot off Plaza del Amo; overflow bikes can use the temporary corral by Maple Ave. Online RSVPs at madronamarsh.com/events snag you a free tote plus the 10 a.m. kayak slot; day-of walkups can still grab noon paddles or plant-sale bundles while supplies last.
