Plane Crash Near Catalina Departs from Torrance

Small aircraft took off from Zamperini Field before fatal crash

A small plane that took off from Zamperini Field in Torrance crashed near Catalina Island on Sunday, killing two people aboard. The aircraft departed Torrance at 10:53 a.m. and was last tracked near Avalon at 11:13 a.m. The FAA and NTSB are investigating the cause of the crash.
