Street Sweeping Rules Can Still Catch Residents Off Guard

Torrance says posted restrictions apply even after the sweeper passes, unless sweeping is officially canceled.

Street sweeping may seem routine, but Torrance residents can still get caught off guard by the details.

The City of Torrance says ACE Parking is a professional parking management company that supports street sweeping enforcement, and the city has not replaced Parking Enforcement. The city also advises drivers not to park in a posted sweeping zone after the sweeper has passed, because the ACE employee is intended to follow the sweeper route and residents should follow the posted three-hour parking restrictions.

The FAQ also says Torrance street sweepers are equipped with GPS. If a resident receives a street sweeping citation and believes the sweeper did not pass their street, the citation can be contested and Sanitation can provide GPS data for the date and time of the citation. The city adds that sweeping may be canceled during rain or operational issues, and ACE will not issue citations when sweeping is canceled.

For homeowners, this is a useful reminder to check signs, move vehicles on time, and verify city updates during rainy weather or unusual conditions.
