TorranceAlerts Lets Residents Choose Emergency Notifications

The city’s free alert system lets residents receive emergency updates by phone, email, text, or mobile app.

Torrance residents who want faster access to official emergency information can sign up for TorranceAlerts, the city’s free early warning notification system.

According to the City of Torrance, TorranceAlerts can send important messages during emergencies such as earthquakes, fires, public health emergencies, and similar situations. Alerts may be sent when the city needs residents to take action, including evacuating, avoiding an area, or sheltering in place. Notifications can be delivered by phone call, email, text message, or through the TorranceAlerts mobile app.

Residents can also customize their subscriptions, choosing the types of alerts they want and how they want to receive them. The city’s TorranceAlerts policy lists examples such as refinery information, Farmers Market notices, lane and road closures, detours, and special events.

For Torrance families, homeowners, seniors, commuters, and local business owners, the system is a practical preparedness tool. Signing up before an emergency can help residents get official city information quickly, instead of relying only on social media posts, neighborhood rumors, or delayed updates.
