Torrance Gets $1 Million Boost for Public Safety Technology |
Federal funding will help expand secure wireless communication tools for emergency response and public safety operations. |
The City of Torrance, in partnership with U.S. Representative Ted W. Lieu and the Torrance Police Department, recently recognized $1,031,000 in federal funding for the city’s Public Safety Digital Infrastructure Expansion Project.
According to the city, the funding will support the installation of new Citizen Broadband Radio System sites throughout Torrance. These secure wireless network sites are intended to strengthen dedicated coverage for emergency response, investigations, and critical public safety operations citywide.
Mayor George K. Chen said the funding represents preparedness, resilience, and a shared commitment to protecting people who live, work, and visit Torrance. Congressman Lieu said the money will help support the Torrance Police Department’s Real Time Response Center and modernize public safety operations.
Police Chief Robert Dunn also emphasized that modern public safety depends not only on officers and first responders, but also on reliable technology systems that help personnel communicate and coordinate when it matters most.
For Torrance residents, the project is another sign that emergency preparedness now includes digital infrastructure — not just vehicles, radios, and staffing. The investment is designed to help first responders stay connected during emergencies, investigations, and large-scale incidents.
