South Bay Emergency Alert Test Scheduled for Wednesday

Phones in the region may receive a test alert at 1 p.m.

Residents across the South Bay may receive a Wireless Emergency Alert test on Wednesday, June 10, at 1 p.m. The test is being conducted by Alert SouthBay as part of regional emergency preparedness planning.

Wireless Emergency Alerts are the loud phone alerts used to reach people quickly during urgent situations. These alerts can be used for major emergencies, evacuation notices, shelter-in-place instructions, severe hazards, or other incidents where fast public notification is needed.

For this test, no action is needed. Residents should simply be aware that a test message may appear on active cell phones in the region. The test is also a good reminder to review emergency notification settings and make sure family members know where to get official information during a real emergency.
