Torrance Election Results Show Tight Mayor’s Race

Latest county results show Sharon Kalani narrowly ahead in the race for Torrance mayor.

Torrance’s June 2 municipal election is shaping up to be one of the city’s most closely watched local races in recent years.

According to the latest Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk results posted as of June 7, Sharon Kalani is leading incumbent Mayor George Chen in the Torrance mayor’s race. The posted count shows Kalani with 18,803 votes, or 50.53%, and Chen with 18,408 votes, or 49.47%.

That puts the race within fewer than 400 votes, making the final count especially important.

Other Torrance races show wider margins. In the City Treasurer race, Aurelio Mattucci leads with 15,507 votes, followed by Mike Griffiths with 14,905 votes and Charles Michel Deemer with 4,415 votes.

For City Council District 1, David Kartsonis leads Jon Kaji, 3,503 votes to 2,319. In District 3, Asam Sheikh leads Mike Mauno, 2,865 votes to 2,036. In District 5, Betty Lieu leads with 4,474 votes, followed by Michelle Brooks with 2,244 and Harry J. Ward with 901.

Rebecca Poirier, running for City Clerk, is listed with 28,983 votes.

The county’s results page notes that election results remain in progress. That means the numbers can still change as ballots are processed and the final vote count is completed.

For Torrance residents, the results matter beyond campaign season. The city’s elected officials will help guide decisions on public safety, city finances, development, parks, streets, business policy, housing, and neighborhood services over the next several years.

Residents who want the latest numbers should check the official Los Angeles County election results page for updates.
