Western Museum of Flight Keeps Aviation History Alive |
The Zamperini Field museum gives visitors a close look at Southern California’s aviation legacy. |
Torrance has a deep aviation connection, and the Western Museum of Flight helps keep that history visible.
Located at 3315 Airport Drive at historic Zamperini Field, the museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying aircraft history and artifacts connected to Southern California’s aviation heritage.
The museum’s collection includes aircraft, prototypes, target drones, piston and jet aircraft engines, aircraft components, World War II instruments, aircrew accessories, and model aircraft. It is the kind of place that can interest aviation enthusiasts, history fans, students, veterans, families, and anyone who likes seeing real machines up close.
The museum’s official site lists regular hours as Friday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. General admission is listed at $10, with children under 12 admitted free.
For Torrance residents, the museum is easy to overlook because it sits near the airport rather than in a traditional shopping or entertainment district. But that is exactly what makes it a hidden gem. It offers a direct connection to the city’s aviation identity and the larger aerospace story of Southern California.
