Chen Art Gallery Hides a World-Class Collection in Torrance

This free Torrance gallery features Chinese art and antiques spanning thousands of years.

orrance has a museum many residents may have never visited — or even realized was here.

Chen Art Gallery, located at 1625 Abalone Avenue, features more than 1,000 artifacts spanning 5,000 years of Chinese history. Discover Torrance describes the collection as including pieces from the earliest Neolithic Era pottery to Ming and Qing imperial palace collections.

The gallery includes more than 15 exhibition rooms dedicated to Chinese arts and antiques. Visitors can see pottery, sculpture, jade, furniture, and historic artifacts that give the space a much larger museum feel than many people might expect from a local Torrance stop.

One of the best parts is that admission is free. The gallery’s website lists visiting hours as Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with weekends and major holidays closed. Visitors should call ahead to schedule a visit or tour before going.

For residents looking for something quiet, educational, and different from the usual Torrance outing, Chen Art Gallery is a true hidden gem.
