Some Torrance Potholes Must Be Reported to Caltrans |
The city says potholes on Hawthorne Boulevard, Western Avenue, and Pacific Coast Highway belong to Caltrans-owned corridors. |
Torrance residents who spot a pothole may need to report it somewhere other than City Hall.
The City of Torrance explains that potholes, sidewalk issues, curb problems, and gutter issues on Caltrans-owned streets should be reported to Caltrans. The city specifically lists Hawthorne Boulevard, Route 107A, from Redondo Beach Boulevard to Pacific Coast Highway; Western Avenue, Route 213, from 190th Street to 236th Street; and Pacific Coast Highway, Route 1, from Western Avenue to Avenue I.
For those corridors, residents can submit a Caltrans service request or call 323-259-2352. This matters because reporting a road problem to the wrong agency can slow down the fix. A pothole on a city-maintained residential street may belong to Torrance, but a pothole on a state-controlled corridor may need to go through Caltrans.
Before filing a report, residents should note the exact location, cross street, travel direction, and any nearby landmarks. That makes it easier for the correct agency to find and review the problem.
