Torrance Teens Build Leadership Through Summer Service |
The Youth Volunteer Leadership Training Program gives high school students hands-on experience while supporting city programs. |
A group of Torrance teens is using summer break to build skills while giving back.
The City of Torrance’s Youth Volunteer Leadership Training Program invites responsible students entering grades 10–12 to gain hands-on job training experience while volunteering in Community Services programs throughout the city. Volunteer opportunities may include working with children at parks and day camps, helping with office work, supporting youth sports programs, assisting at a senior citizen facility, or learning about nature and environmental issues at the Plunge or Nature Center.
For 2026, the program includes mandatory in-service training at THE ATTIC, followed by summer volunteer service from June 15 through August 7. Participants can earn up to 100 volunteer hours while building communication, teamwork, workplace, and leadership skills.
This is exactly the kind of quiet local program that deserves more attention. It helps young people grow while supporting the city programs that Torrance families use all summer long.
