The City of Torrance is updating its Land Use Element and Safety Element, two parts of the city’s General Plan that help guide future decisions about development, housing, safety, and long-term neighborhood planning.
The Land Use Element addresses how residential, commercial, industrial, open-space, and public uses are planned and regulated. Torrance says the update will reflect policies and programs from the city’s Housing Element to provide a range of housing opportunities.
The Safety Element focuses on natural and human-caused hazards, emergency response, public safety, climate adaptation, fire hazards, resiliency strategies, and related policies. The city also says environmental justice goals and policies are expected to be incorporated into the updated Safety Element.
