Some hidden gems are not hidden behind a storefront — they are sitting quietly on a library shelf.

The Friends of the Torrance Library supports Torrance Public Library through book and media sales, including gently used books, DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and more. The group hosts several large sales during the year, but residents can also browse lobby book shelves at Katy Geissert Civic Center Library, where selections are refreshed regularly.

That makes this a perfect Hidden Gems item. It is useful, affordable, community-minded, and easy to overlook if you are only visiting the library to pick up holds or attend an event.

For readers who love books, bargains, or small local discoveries, the Friends shelves are worth a pause. You might find a cookbook, novel, children’s book, movie, or unexpected little treasure — and the money helps support library programs right here in Torrance.
