Check Beach Water Warnings Before You Swim

Nearby South Bay beach advisories can change quickly during summer.

Summer beach days are better when everyone checks the water first.

Los Angeles County Public Health issues beach water warnings when bacteria levels exceed state standards, advising people to avoid swimming, surfing, or playing in affected ocean water. Recent reporting ahead of the Fourth of July weekend listed warnings at several county locations, including Redondo Beach Pier, Mother’s Beach in Marina del Rey, Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro, and other areas.

That does not mean every beach is unsafe every day. It does mean conditions can change, especially near storm drains, piers, enclosed beach areas, or after runoff. For Torrance families heading to Torrance Beach, Redondo, or nearby South Bay spots, checking the latest county advisory before entering the water is a smart habit.
