Something strange is happening at North Torrance Library—and movie fans are invited to watch it unfold twice.

The library’s Feed the Seed! Adult Horror Movie Marathon will screen two versions of Invasion of the Body Snatchers on Thursday, July 16, beginning at 10 a.m.

The program starts with the original 1956 film, a landmark of Cold War-era science fiction about a doctor who discovers that residents of his community are being quietly replaced by emotionless duplicates.

After a short intermission, the marathon continues with the 1978 adaptation, which relocates the story and delivers a darker, more unsettling interpretation of the same central idea.

Watching the films back-to-back offers more than a spooky daytime escape. It also gives viewers an opportunity to see how filmmakers from two different eras used the same premise to explore fear, conformity, distrust, and social change.

The marathon will take place at North Torrance Library, 3604 Artesia Boulevard. The program is listed for adults.
