Aging-related decisions rarely arrive one at a time.

A family may suddenly need to understand in-home care, residential options, legal planning, government benefits, transportation, or how to help an older relative remain independent. H.E.L.P.—Helping Elders Live Productively—exists to make those questions less overwhelming.

The Torrance-based nonprofit provides free education, counseling, and referrals for older adults and the people who care about them. Its goal is not to make decisions for families, but to give them reliable information and practical tools so they can make informed choices.

H.E.L.P.’s online resource library includes materials related to home care, residential-care referrals, estate administration, personal organization, and emergency information. The organization also explains programs such as In-Home Supportive Services, which may pay for eligible assistance with housecleaning, shopping, meal preparation, laundry, personal care, and other needs.

The organization grew from one family’s experience navigating difficult elder-care decisions and has assisted older adults, relatives, and friends thousands of times since opening in 1996. Its office is located at 23001 Hawthorne Boulevard, Suite 203, in Torrance.

H.E.L.P. also welcomes volunteers and matches opportunities with each person’s interests and availability.

Residents can explore classes, tools, counseling resources, and contact information through the official

H.E.L.P. website.
