A bag of groceries can solve an immediate problem. The right combination of food, education, encouragement, and ongoing support can begin changing an entire household’s direction.
That broader approach is central to Community’s Child, a local nonprofit serving children, families, and seniors experiencing poverty, hunger, or homelessness across the South Bay.
The organization’s services include a weekly food distribution, an infant pantry, a senior food program, health events, and scheduled educational classes. These programs help families meet urgent needs while connecting them with additional information and community resources.
Community’s Child was established in 2005 and originally operated a transitional living program for mothers and children experiencing homelessness. Participants received stable housing while pursuing education, vocational training, life-skills development, and a healthier long-term future. The organization has since expanded its outreach while retaining its focus on helping families move beyond crisis.
Weekly food distribution is currently listed for Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Because schedules and eligibility details may change, residents should contact the organization before visiting. Community’s Child is located at 18807 Crenshaw Place in Torrance.
Residents can support the mission by volunteering, becoming a sponsor, or making a financial contribution through the official Community’s Child website.
