Torrance pickleball players may soon have significantly more room to play as construction continues on eight dedicated courts at Wilson Park.
The new courts are being built near the park’s existing tennis, paddle-tennis and shared pickleball facilities. Once completed, the complex will accommodate as many as 32 players simultaneously.
The project includes fencing and nighttime lighting, making the courts usable during a broader range of hours. The city’s published timeline shows construction beginning in March 2026, with completion and opening anticipated during summer 2026. The expansion responds to pickleball’s rapid growth and the increasing demand for dedicated playing space rather than courts shared with tennis or other activities.
Torrance has also adopted a zoning requirement that new public pickleball courts must be located at least 250 feet from residential property, measured from the center of the court. The rule is intended to address concerns about noise near homes.
Wilson Park may not be the end of the city’s pickleball expansion. Torrance has hired a design consultant to examine possible recreational development on approximately nine acres of Southern California Edison right-of-way land at Columbia Park. Dedicated pickleball courts may be considered there based on approvals and public input.
