Caring House Brings Comfort and Dignity to Life’s Final Chapter |
The Torrance nonprofit gives hospice patients and their families a peaceful, home-like alternative when end-of-life care at home is not possible. |

For families facing the final stage of a loved one’s life, the most meaningful moments can easily become overshadowed by medications, meals, bathing, safety concerns, and around-the-clock caregiving responsibilities.
Caring House was created to lift some of that burden.
The Torrance-based nonprofit provides a peaceful residential setting for people receiving hospice services who are in the final weeks or days of their lives. Rather than operating like a hospital or skilled nursing facility, Caring House is designed to feel like a home.
The residence has six private rooms and provides personalized care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Its caregivers assist with meals, medication management, bathing, dressing, mobility, personal comfort, housekeeping, and coordination with each resident’s hospice provider.
Caring House itself is not a hospice agency. Residents continue receiving medical, pain-management, counseling, and spiritual-support services through a Medicare-certified hospice provider, while the Caring House team handles their daily residential care.
That arrangement gives family members an important gift: the opportunity to become spouses, children, siblings, and friends again instead of carrying every caregiving responsibility alone.
Loved ones can spend time talking, sharing memories, sitting quietly, or simply being present without constantly worrying about the next practical task.
Caring House opened in 2016 and is licensed as a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly. It can accommodate up to six residents at a time and reports having served more than 800 residents while also supporting thousands of family members.
The organization welcomes eligible adults from a wide range of cultural, religious, and personal backgrounds. Admission decisions consider medical needs, safety, licensing limitations, and each family’s circumstances.
Community support plays a major role in sustaining the residence. Residents can help through donations, grocery and supply contributions, fundraising, or volunteer service. Volunteer opportunities include administrative assistance, community outreach, and helping preserve residents’ life stories with family permission.
Caring House addresses a difficult subject with extraordinary humanity. Its work ensures that the end of life can still contain dignity, comfort, connection, and moments worth cherishing.
