Lago Seco Park Has More Than Meets the Eye |
Beyond its ballfields and playground, this South Torrance park offers a fitness course, community gardens, basketball, and room to explore. |

Lago Seco Park is easy to overlook if you know it only as the home of Riviera Little League.
Located at 3920 235th Street, the approximately 15-acre South Torrance park combines athletic facilities, family recreation, exercise opportunities, and one of the city’s two community gardens.
Its most distinctive feature may be the 0.67-mile fitness course. Residents can use the loop for walking, jogging, or adding movement to an ordinary park visit. It is long enough to provide a purposeful workout but manageable for people who do not want to tackle a lengthy trail.
The park also includes basketball courts, a playground, picnic tables, barbecues, restrooms, and softball fields. Its combination of amenities makes it useful for families whose members want to do different things during the same outing. Then there are the gardens.
Lago Seco is one of two Torrance parks where residents can lease community garden plots. The plots allow local gardeners to grow produce while meeting neighbors and spending time outdoors. The City currently reports that all plots are occupied, but residents can join a waiting list for future availability.
Even people without a plot may enjoy seeing how much can be grown in a relatively compact urban setting. The gardens introduce a slower, more contemplative character to a park otherwise associated with youth sports and active recreation. The site is also tied to Torrance sports history. The Maurice Wilson Little League fields were created in 1965 and continue to serve local baseball families generations later.
Lago Seco Park succeeds because it does not demand one type of visit. It can be a fitness stop, a playground trip, a picnic location, a youth-sports destination, or simply a place to walk among neighborhood activity.
That versatility makes it a genuine hidden gem—especially for residents who have driven past without realizing everything contained inside.
