The number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in Torrance remained relatively stable during the latest regional count, according to figures released by the City of Torrance.

The 2026 Point-in-Time Count identified 51 unsheltered people outside improvised dwellings, compared with 50 during the 2025 count. At the same time, the number of improvised dwellings—including vehicles, tents and makeshift shelters—declined from 134 to 124.

The annual count is coordinated throughout Los Angeles County and provides a one-night estimate of people living without permanent shelter. Local governments and service organizations use the results to identify trends, plan outreach and support funding requests.

Although the figures suggest that homelessness did not rise sharply in Torrance, the count represents a snapshot rather than a complete measurement of every person experiencing housing instability. People staying temporarily with relatives, living in motels or facing imminent displacement may not be included.

The decline in improvised dwellings is encouraging, but the overall numbers show that homelessness remains a persistent local challenge requiring continued outreach, shelter access and pathways into permanent housing.
