A local nonprofit has stepped forward with a major contribution to help Torrance Theatre Company create one of its most ambitious summer productions.
The Friends of the Torrance Theatre Company donated $35,000 to support the company’s 2026 production of Disney’s Frozen. The contribution will help cover production expenses including scenery, costumes and puppet-building materials.
Large musicals require far more than actors and rehearsal time. Sets must be designed and constructed, costumes created or rented, technical effects coordinated and specialized props developed. Community donations can make it possible for a local theater company to deliver a more polished experience without placing the full financial burden on ticket buyers.
The Friends organization supports Torrance Theatre Company through fundraising, volunteer involvement and community outreach. The theater company describes its broader mission as “bridging theatre and the community” and continues to offer productions, classes, camps and other opportunities for local performers and audiences.
The $35,000 donation is especially meaningful because Frozen requires an elaborate visual world. Costumes, ice-inspired scenery and character puppetry all contribute to the familiar story audiences expect to see onstage.
The contribution also illustrates the important role nonprofit support groups play behind the scenes. While audiences see the finished performance, volunteers and donors often provide the resources that allow community arts organizations to take creative risks and produce larger shows. For Torrance residents, the result is more than a single musical. Support for local theater creates opportunities for performers, designers, technicians, young participants and volunteers while giving families a chance to experience live entertainment close to home.
