Delthorne Park’s Brooks and Bridges Create an Urban Retreat |
Winding paths and mature trees give this neighborhood park a character all its own. |

Delthorne Park does not rely on a dramatic landmark or a packed recreation calendar to make an impression.
The 9.7-acre park is distinguished by winding open spaces, mature trees, small brooks and bridges that give portions of the property a secluded, almost garden-like atmosphere.
That landscaping makes Delthorne particularly appealing for residents seeking a quiet walk, an informal picnic or a change from parks dominated by large sports fields.
The park also includes a rubberized jogging track made with recycled tire material, along with multipurpose game courts. Additional amenities include a basketball court, playground, barbecues, picnic tables, restrooms and a walking path.
Its mix of active and passive space allows different visitors to use the park at the same time. Children can play, walkers can follow the paths, and others can simply sit beneath the trees or enjoy the landscaped water features.
Delthorne Park is located at 3401 Spencer Street and is generally open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
For residents who usually head to Wilson Park, Columbia Park or the city’s coastal spaces, Delthorne offers something different: a smaller neighborhood retreat whose bridges, brooks and shaded curves reward a slower visit.
