Del Amo Fashion Center continues to become more than a place to shop and eat.

Big Blue Swim School is now operating in Torrance at 21880 Hawthorne Boulevard, adding indoor swim instruction to the growing mix of family-oriented services available at and around the shopping center.

The school offers swimming lessons for infants, toddlers and children, with programs designed to build skills and confidence in the water. Its Torrance location operates seven days a week, with weekday afternoon and evening hours and morning-through-afternoon sessions on weekends.

For local families, an indoor facility also makes swimming instruction less dependent on weather or the traditional summer swim season.

The opening reflects a broader evolution taking place at major shopping centers: experiences, recreation and personal services are increasingly joining traditional retailers. At Del Amo, families can now add swim lessons to the reasons for making a trip to the mall.
