Torrance Aerospace Company Lands $8.22 Million U.S. Air Force Contract |
Intellisense Systems will help develop next-generation protection for military aircrews |

Torrance’s aerospace industry has another significant federal contract to celebrate.
Intellisense Systems, Inc., headquartered on Western Avenue in Torrance, announced August 7 that the U.S. Air Force awarded the company an $8,218,891 contract for engineering, manufacturing development and low-rate initial production of next-generation nuclear-flash-blindness goggles.
The specialized equipment is intended to protect military aircrews from the intense flash generated by a nuclear detonation, which can temporarily or permanently impair vision and jeopardize flight operations.
The project represents more than an interesting piece of military technology. It is also another reminder that advanced aerospace, avionics, sensing and defense work remains an important part of Torrance’s business economy.
Intellisense develops electronic systems and sensors for military and aerospace applications from its Torrance operation. The company has also been involved in other major defense programs, including work connected with Boeing’s C-17 aircraft.
For a city whose industrial history includes aviation, manufacturing and engineering, the new Air Force award continues a tradition that runs deeper than many residents may realize.
