Torrance Memorial Is Preparing a Major Expansion of Emergency Care |
The hospital’s new emergency department will more than double treatment capacity |

A major transformation is underway at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.
The hospital is expanding its Emergency Department to create a substantially larger facility capable of treating more patients while improving privacy, efficiency and access to emergency care.
According to Torrance Memorial Foundation, the expanded department is expected to include more than 80 treatment spaces, approximately double the department’s current capacity.
The new facility is being designed with flexible treatment areas that can be adapted as patient needs change, private treatment rooms and enhanced technology intended to improve both safety and efficiency.
The expansion comes as emergency departments throughout Southern California contend with increasing patient volumes and greater demand for rapid diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Construction has also begun affecting how people move around portions of the hospital campus. Torrance Memorial currently advises that beginning August 17, patient pickup and drop-off for the Lundquist Tower will temporarily shift to the tower’s north entrance along Lomita Boulevard.
The Emergency Department project is expected to open in 2026, making this one of the most consequential healthcare improvements currently underway in Torrance.
For residents, the headline is straightforward: Torrance Memorial is preparing to significantly increase the amount of emergency care it can provide when minutes matter most.
