Torrance Has a Rocket Ship With One of the Best Views in the South Bay |
Los Arboles Park combines a retro playground landmark with a surprisingly spectacular panorama |

You could live in Torrance for years without realizing there is a rocket ship sitting high above the city.
At Los Arboles Park, often called Rocketship Park, the centerpiece is an unmistakable multi-level metal rocket reminiscent of the elaborate playground equipment children climbed decades ago.
The retro structure includes four levels, along with a lunar-module-style companion, giving younger visitors something dramatically different from the typical modern playground.
But adults have an equally good reason to visit.
The park’s hillside location provides one of the most impressive panoramic views in Torrance. Discover Torrance notes that on a clear day the view can reach across the city toward landmarks including the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory and the Getty Center.
Sunset is an especially good time to discover the park, when the view across the basin becomes the main attraction.
Los Arboles Park is located at 5101 Calle de Ricardo and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
It may officially be a neighborhood park, but between the vintage rocket and the view, this one qualifies as a genuine Torrance hidden gem.
