Japan’s OMUSUBI Chose Torrance for Its First U.S. Location |
Rice balls, Kyoto matcha and a distinctly Japanese grab-and-go tradition have landed at The Enclave |

Torrance has become the American starting point for another Japanese food concept.
OMUSUBI opened its first U.S. location at The Enclave, 980 W. 190th Street, earlier this summer.
The restaurant specializes in one of Japan’s most familiar everyday foods: the omusubi, also commonly known as onigiri.
These handheld rice portions are typically shaped around savory fillings and wrapped with seaweed, making them a Japanese grab-and-go staple that can function as breakfast, lunch, a snack or part of a larger meal.
OMUSUBI’s Torrance debut includes a curated selection of freshly made rice balls along with Kyoto Uji matcha, with the company saying additional flavors and offerings are being added as the concept develops.
The location currently lists weekday hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weekend hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What makes this especially interesting for Torrance is not simply that another Japanese restaurant opened.
It is that the company selected Torrance for its first American location.
Between OMUSUBI, the city’s Japanese supermarkets, ramen restaurants, bakeries and countless specialty dining concepts, Torrance continues to serve as a natural U.S. landing point for Japanese food brands.
And this one is refreshingly simple:
Rice. Filling. Seaweed.
Sometimes that is all you need.
