Torrance Transit Is Seeking Nearly $8.9 Million in State and Local Transportation Funds |
The money would help support public transportation during the 2026–27 fiscal year |

Millions of dollars that help keep Torrance’s transit system operating are moving through City Hall this week.
The Torrance Transit Department is asking City Council to approve its annual funding claim to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority for fiscal year 2026–27.
The request includes:
$7,779,832 in Transportation Development Act funds, plus
Together, that amounts to approximately $8.87 million.
These types of outside transportation funds are an important piece of financing public transit systems without requiring every operating dollar to come from passenger fares or a city’s General Fund.
The Council item itself does not request a General Fund expenditure. Instead, Council authorization allows Torrance Transit to submit its annual claim through Metro.
Torrance operates a municipal transit system serving the city and surrounding South Bay communities, while also connecting riders with larger regional transportation networks.
For passengers, multimillion-dollar funding approvals like this may happen quietly in the consent calendar, but they help underpin the buses, routes and transportation services residents use throughout the year.
The item is scheduled for consideration at the August 11 City Council meeting.
