A New Public-Art Mural Could Be Coming to the DoubleTree |
City Council will consider approving a mural along the Hawthorne Boulevard corridor |

Another piece of public art may soon appear along one of Torrance’s busiest commercial corridors.
The Cultural Arts Commission and Community Services Department are recommending approval of a mural proposed for the DoubleTree by Hilton Torrance South Bay at 21333 Hawthorne Boulevard.
The application, identified by the City as Mural #2026-00002, now goes before City Council on August 11.
Council is being asked to adopt a resolution approving the Cultural Arts Commission’s recommendation and setting the conditions under which the mural may proceed. Council would also approve an indemnification agreement associated with the artwork.
The hotel property is within the Hawthorne Boulevard Corridor Specific Plan’s Del Amo Business Sub-District, so exterior changes such as public artwork move through the City’s established review process.
There is no City expenditure associated with the proposal.
Unlike many of Tuesday’s routine Consent Calendar items, the mural appears under Administrative Matters, meaning it is positioned for direct Council consideration rather than automatic inclusion in a single consent vote.
Torrance has increasingly been bringing art beyond traditional galleries and cultural facilities and into everyday public spaces.
If approved, this mural would add another piece to that growing collection—this time along Hawthorne Boulevard.
