A New Torrance Youth Council Is Taking Its Seats |
18 Students Will Help Bring Teen Perspectives to City Government |

A new group of young Torrance residents is getting an up-close look at how local government works.
Eighteen high school students have been appointed to the 2026–27 Torrance Youth Council, continuing a city program designed to give young people a formal voice in the community.
The Youth Council serves as an advisory body to the Torrance City Council on issues affecting young people. Its members come from local high schools and other student constituencies in the community. Members gain experience with civic participation while discussing youth-related issues, supporting community projects and learning how municipal government operates.
For the students selected, it is much more than another extracurricular activity. They get a firsthand opportunity to understand public service and help represent the perspectives of younger Torrance residents.
