Volunteers Support Patients, Families and Major Community Fundraisers |

One of Torrance’s biggest institutions also relies on something that cannot be measured in hospital beds or medical equipment: volunteers.
Torrance Memorial Medical Center offers a range of volunteer opportunities for people interested in supporting patients, families and the hospital community.
Some serve through hospital volunteer programs, while others participate through specialized groups with their own missions and traditions. One of the best-known is Las Amigas.
The organization was founded by women committed to supporting quality healthcare and continues today as a volunteer support group of the Torrance Memorial Foundation.
Its largest fundraising effort is the hospital’s annual Holiday Festival, which brings thousands of visitors together while raising money in support of Torrance Memorial.
Las Amigas members also participate in activities and gatherings throughout the year.
For residents looking for a way to contribute locally, volunteering at a hospital can take many forms. It can mean helping visitors, supporting patients and families, assisting with programs or lending a hand to fundraising efforts behind the scenes.
Torrance Memorial encourages prospective volunteers to contact its Volunteer Services department to learn about current openings and requirements.
It is another reminder that some of Torrance’s most important institutions are supported not only by professionals—but by neighbors willing to donate their time.
