Alta Loma Park Has Views — and Peacocks |
This Quiet South Torrance Park Comes With an Unexpected Wild Side |

There is a small South Torrance park where an ordinary walk can suddenly include a peacock crossing your path.
Alta Loma Park, located at 26126 Delos Drive, covers just 5.5 acres, but its elevated setting gives visitors something many Torrance parks cannot offer: hillside views across Torrance and the South Bay. The park also has a roughly quarter-mile fitness path, playground, picnic areas, barbecue facilities and a half basketball court.
But the feature that really makes Alta Loma memorable is considerably less predictable.
Wild peacocks are known to frequent the park. Discover Torrance specifically highlights the resident flock as one of the reasons the park stands out among the city’s neighborhood green spaces.
That combination makes Alta Loma particularly good for a simple outing when you do not need a destination packed with activities.
Take a few laps around the walking path, stop for the view, let the kids use the playground—or simply see whether one of the park’s colorful unofficial residents happens to make an appearance.
It is exactly what a Hidden Gem should be: easy to drive past, inexpensive to enjoy and surprisingly memorable once you know it is there.
