Descanso Park Packs a Workout Into Three Acres |
This Small North Torrance Park Has a Fitness Course Hidden Around the Green Space |

Some Hidden Gems impress because they are spectacular.
Descanso Park works for almost the opposite reason: it is remarkably practical.
The small neighborhood park at 2500 Descanso Way covers only about three acres, making it easy to overlook among Torrance’s larger recreational spaces. The City describes it as a neighborhood park with open green space for casual recreation.
Hidden within that compact footprint, however, is a useful mix of amenities.
There is a playground, picnic area and softball diamond, along with a 0.27-mile fitness course equipped with exercise stations. The park also provides accessible facilities.
That short exercise loop is what makes Descanso especially useful.
You do not need to block out half a day, organize an outing or drive across the city. It works as the kind of neighborhood place where someone can squeeze in a walk, add a few exercise stops, bring children to the playground or simply spend a little time outdoors.
The name even seems appropriate: descanso means rest or respite in Spanish.
For residents who usually associate Torrance recreation with Wilson Park, Madrona Marsh or the beach, this little North Torrance park offers a much quieter alternative.
