Torrance Keeps Six Major Transportation Projects Alive |
Council Extends Metro Funding Deadlines Through June 2027 |

Several long-planned Torrance transportation projects just received more breathing room.
At its August 11 meeting, the Torrance City Council considered amendments to six funding agreements with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority involving Measure R transportation money. The amendments extend funding deadlines to June 30, 2027 for projects whose programmed funds otherwise faced earlier lapse dates.
The projects include:
These amendments do not represent six brand-new projects.
Instead, they preserve access to previously programmed transportation funds while giving Torrance additional time to complete the work and satisfy Metro’s funding requirements.
That distinction matters because large public infrastructure projects often move through design, environmental review, utility coordination and construction over many years.
Without extensions, unused transportation funding can eventually expire or become unavailable.
The projects themselves touch some of Torrance’s most heavily traveled streets and intersections, meaning even incremental improvements can affect thousands of drivers, transit riders and nearby businesses.
For residents, the takeaway is straightforward:
Several important Torrance road and transportation projects remain funded and moving forward rather than losing their existing Metro funding authority.
