One of Torrance’s major public sports facilities will be shared with a local high school under a new five-year agreement.

The Torrance City Council’s August 11 agenda included approval of a license agreement with Ambassador High School for use of the Dee Hardison Sports Center at Charles H. Wilson Park.

The agreement runs from August 11, 2026 through August 10, 2031.

The city listed no expenditure associated with approving the agreement.

The Dee Hardison Sports Center is already an important part of Torrance recreation programming.

The indoor facility at Wilson Park is used for city youth basketball and volleyball programs, along with other recreational activities. The City currently lists the center as a game location for multiple youth leagues.

The new agreement allows Ambassador High School to make use of the facility while it continues serving the broader community.

That makes this more than a routine facility-use permit.

A five-year term creates a stable athletic home for the school and represents a longer partnership involving a city-owned recreational asset.

The agreement also illustrates one of the less visible functions of City Hall: determining how public buildings and recreational facilities can be shared among city programs, schools and other community organizations.

For Wilson Park users, the sports center remains an active public facility. The new agreement simply adds Ambassador High School to the groups scheduled to use it.
