Gable House Apartments Are Now Leasing in Torrance |
The Former Bowling Alley Site Has Become 218 Apartments and New Retail Space |

A major Torrance redevelopment that residents have watched rise for several years has officially entered a new phase.
Gable House Apartments is now leasing.
The five-story residential development stands at 22501 Hawthorne Boulevard, on the former site of the longtime Gable House Bowl.
Developer Intracorp currently lists the Torrance community as “Now Leasing.” The project includes 218 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments, along with approximately 12,000 square feet of ground-floor commercial space planned for future dining and shopping uses.
The development also includes 17 affordable apartments, which were required as part of the project’s approval.
For longtime Torrance residents, the site carries plenty of history.
Gable House Bowl operated for decades before closing to make way for the mixed-use project. Rather than erase the name completely, the developer retained “Gable House” and designed portions of the new building to reference the distinctive architectural gables of the former bowling alley.
Amenities planned for residents include a rooftop sky deck and pool lounge, fitness and wellness facilities, coworking areas, social spaces and outdoor decks.
The significance extends beyond one apartment building.
Torrance has historically seen relatively little large-scale multifamily construction compared with some neighboring Southern California communities. Gable House therefore represents a noticeable addition to the city’s housing supply.
Its location is also important. The project sits along Hawthorne Boulevard near major shopping, employment and transportation corridors, continuing a broader shift toward adding residential development in commercial areas around Del Amo.
And the transformation is not quite finished.
The residential portion may now be leasing, but the roughly 12,000 square feet of commercial space means additional restaurants, shops or services could eventually arrive at street level.
What was once primarily a destination for bowling is becoming an entirely new mixed-use neighborhood address.
