Summer is turning up the temperature across Southern California, and Torrance is included in the latest round of heat-related weather alerts.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Torrance through 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, followed by an Extreme Heat Watch from Tuesday morning through 8 p.m. Friday, August 28.

The Torrance forecast calls for daytime highs around 85 degrees Tuesday and 86 degrees Wednesday, with overnight temperatures remaining near 70 degrees. Conditions can vary considerably across the city, particularly farther from the immediate coast.

The National Weather Service is urging residents throughout the region to stay hydrated, reduce strenuous afternoon outdoor activity and pay particular attention to people who are more vulnerable to heat.

For Torrance families, the timing is particularly notable because Torrance Unified students have just returned to school and many fall sports and outdoor activities are beginning.
