A new Torrance community event this weekend will focus on resources, connections and awareness for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing and also have developmental disabilities.
Harbor Regional Center is hosting its first Deaf Plus Awareness Resource Fair on Saturday, August 29, ahead of Deaf Awareness Month.
The event is intended for self-advocates, families, professionals and community members, with organizations and service providers gathering in one location to share information and resources.
“Deaf Plus” is commonly used to describe people who are Deaf or hard of hearing and also have additional disabilities or support needs.
For families navigating multiple service systems, events like this can provide an opportunity to make connections, ask questions and learn about assistance that may otherwise be difficult to locate.
The fair will take place at Harbor Regional Center’s Torrance location on Hawthorne Boulevard and runs from noon to 3 p.m.
The organization is also providing event information in multiple languages, including Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Traditional Chinese and Khmer.
When: Saturday, August 29, noon–3 p.m.
