One hour of your time could make a meaningful difference for someone you will probably never meet.

The American Red Cross says its blood supply remains under significant pressure, and donors are still needed to help ensure hospitals have enough blood available for patients.

Torrance residents have an unusually convenient way to help.

The Red Cross operates a Torrance Blood Donation Center at 17512 Crenshaw Boulevard, with appointments available throughout this week.

The current schedule includes donation opportunities:

  • Monday, August 24: 12:30–7:15 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 25: 12:30–7:15 p.m.
  • Wednesday, August 26: 12:30–7:15 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 27: 11 a.m.–5:45 p.m.
  • Friday, August 28: 8:30 a.m.–3:15 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 29: 8 a.m.–2:45 p.m.
  • Sunday, August 30: 8 a.m.–2:45 p.m.
  •

Blood donations support patients receiving emergency treatment, surgery, cancer care and treatment for numerous serious medical conditions.

And because blood products cannot simply be manufactured when supplies run low, maintaining an adequate supply depends heavily on volunteer donors continuing to show up.

For Torrance residents who have been wondering how they can do something tangible for their community this week, this may be one of the simplest answers.
