Wilson Park Is Hiding a 2,500-Square-Foot Tree House |
California’s First Universally Accessible Public Tree House Is Right Here in Torrance |

Wilson Park has softball fields, a farmers market, pickleball courts and a splash pad—but tucked among all those familiar attractions is something considerably more unusual.
The Annenberg Tree House is a massive 2,500-square-foot wooden tree house designed so children and adults of varying physical abilities can explore it together.
And it has an impressive distinction: Discover Torrance identifies it as the first universally accessible tree house in a public space in California.
Instead of requiring visitors to climb ladders or navigate narrow platforms, the structure was designed to provide an elevated tree-house experience to people who might otherwise be unable to enjoy one.
The project was made possible through a donation from the Annenberg Foundation, and Torrance was selected in part because of the city’s community programs, diversity and support for people with physical challenges.
The result is a surprisingly large wooden structure with elevated views across Wilson Park.
It's especially easy to overlook because Wilson Park has so many better-known attractions. Residents may visit for the farmers market, a ballgame or Summer Nights and never realize that one of California's more unusual accessible recreation features is only a short walk away.
Where: Charles H. Wilson Park, 2200 Crenshaw Blvd.
