Torrance Drone Maker Launches a Safer New Aircraft |
A2Z Drone Delivery unveils its dual-battery Longtail for commercial missions |

Another piece of cutting-edge aerospace technology is coming out of Torrance.
A2Z Drone Delivery unveiled its new Longtail Dual on August 31, a commercial drone designed for delivery, patrol and other beyond-visual-line-of-sight missions.
The biggest change is right in the name: the aircraft uses two batteries with true redundancy. A2Z says the drone can remain fully controllable on one battery if the other fails, adding another layer of protection for operations over cities, infrastructure and other demanding environments.
The aircraft can also operate with A2Z’s automated AirDock stations, which recharge drones between missions. The company says the Longtail Dual achieves roughly a one-to-one flight-to-charge ratio, meaning 30 minutes of flight would require about 30 minutes of charging.
Cargo and patrol versions are available. The cargo model can carry up to 11 pounds, while the patrol configuration can be equipped with thermal imaging, zoom cameras, a spotlight and other tools for public-safety or inspection work.
A2Z’s worldwide headquarters is at 1990 Del Amo Boulevard in Torrance, where the company conducts research, development, product design, customer training and support.
It is another example of Torrance’s increasingly diverse aerospace sector extending well beyond traditional aircraft and spacecraft.
