Northwood Space Is Quintupled Its Torrance Footprint |
The space-tech company is moving into 135,000 square feet and plans hundreds of new jobs |

One of Torrance’s fastest-growing space companies is dramatically increasing its presence in the city.
Northwood Space is expanding from approximately 25,000 square feet to 135,000 square feet of manufacturing space, according to L.A. Business First. Production is expected to begin shifting into the expanded Torrance facility in October.
The company also reportedly plans to add roughly 400 jobs over the next three years, a significant employment increase for Torrance’s already booming aerospace and defense-tech sector.
Northwood develops ground-based communications infrastructure that connects satellites with operators on Earth. Its technology includes phased-array ground stations designed to support missions involving national security, global communications and disaster response.
The company’s careers page currently lists dozens of open positions, many of them based in Torrance and spanning engineering, manufacturing, software, security, operations and supply chain roles.
The expansion is particularly notable because Torrance has become a magnet for a new generation of aerospace and defense companies, joining longstanding local names such as Honda and Robinson Helicopter with rapidly growing firms working in satellites, drones, nuclear energy and advanced manufacturing.
For Torrance, the Northwood expansion is more than another corporate real-estate move. A fivefold increase in manufacturing space combined with hundreds of planned jobs represents a potentially significant addition to the city’s employment base and further strengthens Torrance’s position in Southern California’s expanding space economy.
