Torrance Is Looking for Residents to Help Shape City Decisions |
Three City commissions have vacancies — and applications are open |

You do not have to run for City Council to have a formal role in Torrance government.
The City Clerk is accepting applications for vacancies on three advisory bodies:
Civil Service Commission
Historic Preservation Commission
Parks and Recreation Commission
These commissions review issues within their subject areas and make recommendations that can eventually influence City Council decisions.
Applicants must be qualified Torrance electors and must be current on the City’s required Commission Certification.
Applications must reach the City Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. Thursday, September 17. Postmarks do not count, so mailed applications must actually arrive by the deadline.
Residents may apply online or submit an application through the City Clerk’s Office.
Applicants are also responsible for scheduling interviews with the mayor and councilmembers.
Commissioners receive a $20 stipend for each meeting attended, provided they attend at least two-thirds of the meeting.
Torrance currently has 12 commissions, one council, one committee and three boards that advise the City Council.
For someone who regularly has opinions about Torrance parks, historic buildings, city employment rules or local government decisions, this is one way to move from commenting on those issues to actually participating in the process.
