Costco Wants to Build a 425-Space Parking Lot on Lomita Boulevard |
Planning Commission will review the 4.9-acre proposal Wednesday |

Costco is looking to significantly expand its parking capacity in Torrance.
The company has submitted plans for a 425-space parking lot at 2640 Lomita Boulevard, on approximately 4.9 acres of property near its existing Torrance operations.
The Torrance Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the proposal at its Wednesday, September 2 meeting at 6:30 p.m.
The application includes a request for a modification and a second addendum to the project’s environmental impact report, meaning planners will review whether the proposed changes require additional environmental analysis before the project can move ahead.
A 425-space lot is substantial enough to change how traffic, circulation and parking function around the property, which makes this more than a routine site improvement.
For nearby residents and drivers who regularly use Lomita Boulevard, the important questions will be how vehicles enter and exit the site, whether traffic patterns change and how the new paved area fits with surrounding development.
The Planning Commission serves as Torrance’s primary public-review body for many land-use and development applications before certain projects move forward or reach the City Council.
The proposal has not yet received final approval.
For now, Wednesday night is the next major step.
