One of the largest health-care construction projects in the South Bay reached a major milestone last week with the opening of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center’s new six-story clinic building in Torrance.

The 373,000-square-foot facility includes more than 200 exam rooms and is designed to serve more than 300,000 patients annually. Primary and specialty care, imaging, rehabilitation, pharmacy, laboratory services, maternity-related care, pediatrics, cardiology and other outpatient services are being consolidated into the new building.

The clinic is part of the $1.8 billion Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Replacement Program, which includes 30 separate projects and six new buildings across the 72-acre campus. A new nine-story, 347-bed hospital remains under construction and is expected to be completed in early 2028.

The scale of the project makes this more than a routine hospital expansion. Harbor-UCLA already employs more than 4,300 people, and the redevelopment is expected to strengthen the medical center’s role as a major regional provider, teaching institution and emergency-care hub for millions of South Bay residents.
