The music may be over, but the impact of South Bay Sunrise Rotary’s Hot Summer Night fundraiser is continuing.

The Torrance-based Rotary club is highlighting six community organizations that received checks from the fundraiser: Palos Verdes Land Conservancy, Mychal’s Learning Place, ICAN, Friends of Torrance Exceptional Athletes, Paddle Our Plastics and Peninsula Seniors.

The August fundraiser was created specifically to support community organizations along with student scholarships and other service programs. Among the beneficiaries are groups serving people with developmental disabilities, protecting open space, supporting exceptional athletes, helping seniors and reducing plastic pollution.

That makes the story less about one summer evening and more about what happens afterward — when ticket sales, sponsors, raffles and community participation are converted into tangible support for organizations doing the work year-round.
