Walteria Park Is More of a Neighborhood Hub Than It Looks |
A park, library, courts, exercise area and community space all come together on one South Torrance block. |

Walteria Park is one of those places that becomes more interesting once you realize how much is concentrated in one small neighborhood space.
The 4.5-acre park at 3855 242nd Street includes a playground, picnic area, barbecues, softball diamond, basketball and tennis courts, horseshoe courts and an exercise area. It also has meeting space, a kitchen and an electric-car charging station.
Then there is the bonus: Walteria Library sits right next door.
That makes it easy to turn a library visit into playground time, combine a walk with a book pickup, or simply spend an unhurried afternoon in a part of Torrance that feels distinctly neighborhood-oriented.
It may not be one of the city’s destination parks, but that is precisely why it qualifies as a hidden gem.
