FirstServe Keeps Building a Support Network for South Bay Seniors |
The Torrance-based organization combines companionship, caregiver support, exercise and education for older adults. |

Not every form of community service is dramatic.
Sometimes it is simply making sure an older neighbor doesn’t have to navigate a difficult appointment alone.
Torrance-based FirstServe Senior Services of the South Bay has been serving older adults since 2005 through programs designed around wellness, education and companionship.
Its programs include senior exercise groups, educational gatherings, grief support and dementia-caregiver support.
One of its more personal efforts is Caring Companions, which trains volunteers to accompany seniors to medical appointments and help them communicate with healthcare providers.
FirstServe also holds its Basket Social Dinner & Raffle on September 26 at Faith Hall in Torrance, with proceeds supporting its senior programs.
The mission is practical, but the underlying idea is bigger: aging well often depends not just on services, but on connection.
And sometimes the most valuable thing a community can provide is simply making sure someone doesn’t have to do everything alone.
